Found two Vtecs along Ontdekkers Rd Newlands area, amazingly I noticed the one and then the second one standing on their same lot. I was like wow imagine my luck lol of finding two in the same place it's like rare enough to find one. One of them is a stock standard 2000 model white Civic Vtec but it's got signs of having had a hard life due to some of the details I noticed on her bodywork plus the pulleys on the side had a squeeking belt, she has 209000kms on the clock and they are asking R65000.00 for her at that car dealership. The next one that caught my eye was also a white Civic Vtec but a modded 1998 one where she also needs some TLC but she has aftermarket front lights, a neat aftermarket front bumper, the engine bay is very clean and very neat, there is a heat shield box shielding the racing cone filter, I noticed branches and a full free flow exhaust system, she has been lowered, I can't see any tell tale signs of what is hiding inside the engine but she pics up alot more then most Civic Vtecs that I've ever been inside. She also has two gauges inside, one for oil pressure and another that wasn't lighting up but neatly fitted inside of the dash next to the cluster, when she was warmed up I asked them to rev her and she sounds like the hounds of war close to 5000rpm and I know she was nowhere near Vtec but rev pick up was precise and quick, below 3500-4000rpm she sounds like any stock Vtec so it makes me think something special is inside there, she has 203000kms more or less and for this one they are asking R60000.00. Right across the road there is a Honda Prelude in black, the 5th Gen going for R60000.00 but didn't look at it although I can say there is nothing cosmetic that needs to be sorted on it, she's perfect.

ok just my 2c on this. first off Vtec should be around the 50K mark not 60.

then yeah great on the 98. sound like it has a flywheel done if it rev's up lekker fast. the problem is i would never buy a car that i know has been modded even if it was loved coz im sure its been driven hard. loved but a sort of tough love. the question is why was it sold? i have never met a honda driver that wantted to get rid of their honda anless it had some thing wrong or about to go wrong. and still they were sad to see them go. but customer act protects you now...

then just last thing. are you going to mod it or leave it stock if mod it, get a car that the after market likes. civic ballade etc. the preludes are a bit tougher to mod.

Well the Civic Vtec is pretty sweet but for the first time in a while it's actually starting to age, the engine is brilliant tech but I feel they may start losing their value. The Prelude is also a great car but once the manual gearbox is in and it's benefit is that it's one of those cutting edge shapes that could become timeless. As far as feel goes I've always been more keen on the Civic EK Vtec with all NA parts, it also feels more solid on the road to me somehow stock vs stock, yes it's only 118kws stock and all you prelude lovers know the prelude weight but the Civic you can really feel a bit more kick when Vtec comes in, is this due to the B16A engine having something special, I've noted nothing special besides Vtec with the abnormal cams and the pins that hold Vtec back and the larger cylinder capacities over those of the 160i Honda etc. Help me guys.

Rob, its a difficult one.. Civic owners love civics and prelude owners love preludes, i was in the same boat before i bought my 1st prelude, i chose the prelude over the civic and i would again, yes the civics are more mod friendly and a hell of a lot cheaper to run and maintain but the preludes are unique, the people that drive them are a different bunch, i just like the fact that prelude where the testing platform for Honda and have no equals, if you want a car for a robot to robot dash then id say rather opt for the civic its better suited, if you want to drive a car and people are like what the **#@ was that then the prelude is the ticket, with that said, the prelude is @SS expensive when things go wrong. Lol just my 2c,

Nothing special in the B16A that makes you feel the VTEC kick except the torque level output. remember, the H22A torque is there from the bottom already, making VTEC impact less. Throw in other variables like different camshaft ramp rates and durations on and off VTEC and you'll have a completely different experience again.

I told you all before but I'm going to say it again, the best VTEC is the VTEC that is there but cannot be felt - it's got to be perfectly smooth.

was about to say that. you should never feel vtec kick. you should hear it. and feel the car breath better(pull harder) but not kick. should be smooth.

an back to the first post you said you rev the car to 5000 rpm. vtec should be coming in around there. but the reason why it didnt. car warm and is it the was no signal from the Vss there are a few this that allow vtec to activate. Vss (minium of 15 -20km) water temp, oil pressure(can be bypassed, but make sure you have an oil pressure gauge then) ,TPS, and one other thing that has slipped my mind....

118kw on the fly at the coast. -14% -20% and you got a +- of the power you making here NA

Swich you're correct, only items not there is intake air temp and most IMPORTANTLY oil temps (which is picked up by oil pressure in a round about way anyway).

Check out this one, I've never ever thought of a Ballade but this one may need saving hey http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c-ViewAd?AdId=280688357&MessageId=MSG.VIEW_AD.REPLY_TO_AD_SENT&mpname=LocClass-R2S&mpuid=%3B280688357%3B56974997%3B3100101%3B5%3B9076%3B%3B%3B%3B1305273557680&secev=AQAAAS%2FhgLgAAM0AAAACACIxMmZlODVkZTJiMC5hMjBiMjZkLjJkYmIxLmZmZmY0ODExAAAAABC69uUBAAAAKwAAAAmLyloAAj9AUa%2FW%2FGUlTbyVD1MgVAbT42M*#

I personally dont trust any car that has had its original steering wheel removed for an aftermarket one, especially if the OEM one had an airbag.

Agree with you about that, however in certain instances there are genuine sellers selling there car,
eg.: me I told Rob everything thats wrong with the car and im only selling to buy two honda's a civic for me ballade for her because we need two cars.
If it wasnt for that id never let the prelude go,no matter how much it cost's me.

A civic Vtec and a ballade Vtec he he he. Yeah I know how you feel about the airbag, same as most times when I see a replaced front bumper it makes me think that they may have been in a front end etc but also like you say there are genuine guys out there selling theirs and many of my friends in the past that had them also put small steering wheels on because some of the race type guys that I know could care less about safety and more about been a bit quicker. I spoke to the guy about the maroon one and I'll go see it tomorrow with my own eyes. He wants R41000 for it which seems too good to be true so I asked him what is wrong with the car seriously and it seems all that is wrong is the CVs and the small chip on the front bumper, the other thing is that it's a Ballade lol. Four doors for more whores lol. There is also a guy selling one in Heidelberg for R48000 but it's a civic in green, stock but with 17's on. We'll see what happens, I'm keen to look if the cars are anything decent.

What's nice about LHDs sale is that the history of the car as far as he goes is an open book, he's willing to show you everything that the car is. I'm the same as far as it goes for selling cars, when I sold my little car that I had last year, the engine picked up a tapping sound when I put her on the market so been the guy that I am I spent 15k getting the engine overhauled and cams replaced and lifters and everything done and just after that the ecu had an issue so I bought an original stock new one for 5k for the car and sold the car but made a loss of the repair costs but felt good knowing that I didn't cheat somebody especially if it's a girl driving my car and it had to break if she couldn't afford the repairs. When I even sold my GTi mk1 Golf even she was running better then she'd ever run before, that was one of the only cars that I never wanted to ever sell Cry

well market value of of vtec are arounf 45k but i would pay 50k for a neat one.

there are reasons fot selling good cars. upgrading from say a civic to accord. or as you say really need the money or 2 car etc. but those are rare cases in the honda world. we'll sell kidneys before we sell cars.

The silver one is a beauty with I think they said 165000 true kms on the clock but they want R75000.00 for it so it's not a option really because that's a bit high. Some guy stated on one of the forums that trade value of a Vtec at the moment is 35k or something silly like that but doubt there would be any going for 35k ever lol. I like yourself feel around 50k is reasonable and anything less is a bargain. I'm also worried about some of these beautys been of a stolen nature if you know what I mean and when paperwork goes through and the cops take a car back the sellers are usually long gone, so I'm always one for doing police checks before any moneys are exchanged etc

I we get a Vtec for my girl it's a car I can begin to start been hands on again with and do all the work and mods to it mainly myself so that I really be one with this special little car. As for my RX7 it's in my view too high tech and in need of special treatment hence why I'm not considering doing things to it's engine myself because a wrong move on a rotary engine can cause the end of a car altogether for a huge amount of money.

How's this for funny, does everybody remember the white civic Vtecs I spotted higher up? Well I was viewing Gumtree tonight and look at this ad http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c-ViewAd?AdId=282934853&MessageId=MSG.VIEW_AD.REPLY_TO_AD_SENT&mpname=LocClass-R2S&mpuid=%3B282934853%3B46821995%3B3100101%3B5%3B9077%3B%3B%3B%3B1305738623820&secev=AQAAAS%2FzhvoAAM0AAAACACIxMzAwNDE2M2I0Yy5hMjBiMjZhLjEzODdlLmZmZmNkMjU3AAAAABDdPkUBAAAAKwAAAA9X8jMAjXLIeHkyeYRWAxbp%2B8WuiYxmh24* it looks strangely similar to that standard white one I spotted but now miraculously the kms seem to have dropped greatly by like 40000+ kms, it was also R64900.00 but in the ad they're stating it's R65900.00, I'm almost sure this is the same Honda. I'm going to check their cards number now to make sure. I sent them an email of complaint so lets see if they reply.

Okay checked their card but that number is not on the card but I'm sure it's the same Vtec. Such a pity hey.

lol I received a reply stating that their woman that places the adverts made the mistake of typing 161000kms etc, somehow I doubt it's a mistake though I just think they had an honest streak thanks to my email to them lol.
