Hi All,

This serves as the official thread to my track toy 323 build up. Enjoy the read as I post the build up of what will be one of the cleanest and meanest NA FE DOHC / 323 combo's in industry.

You can never start a project like this without considering the basics - day to day maintenance. So the next few posts will be a bit mundane starting with this Saturday's to do list:

1.) Replace spark plugs with the best I can currently get my hands on.

2.) Remove valve cover and replace gaskets, fixing a leak I've been battling with recently. Will need to restore valve cover state at some point, the OEM gold finish is starting to wear badly.

3.) Replace wheel bearings around the entire car, front right is giving some issues and it's about time I do them all anyway.

4.) Check if there is anything I can do about the electrical wiring at this stage - original ecu was fitted by an auto-electrician that enjoyed taking short cuts.

Will take pics if I see anything interesting while working.

Since last posting I had to fit new lateral control arms and replace bushes around the vehicle to minimize sway on the open road. All part of the restore process... nothing exciting done yet.

I've replaced front wheel bearings, they were so bad that the hubs themselves had some serious wear.

Needed new brake pads, fitted front set of Bendix Ultimates. Will post if I have trouble with the compound.

Just for interest, my current mounting setup as-is

I've experienced better breaking than before - bite is always there and the characteristics of this pad perfect for fast road use.

Noise levels are low compared to the EBC Greens. The only issue is dust Smiley there isn't a lot but there is a bit more than the EBC gave off.

On another note - looking for a new front gearbox mount bracket.

which gearbox mounting are you looking for the front or rear??if the front , do you have the correct crossmember, with the 4 hole mounting in it??then you need the mazda 200e mounting bracket .it will have 2 bolts on the front and 2 on the side of the case, unlike the 1.3 which has all 4 on the same front face of the box??

I have all the mountings, just want to fix up the front cross member area. Thinking of buy a new cross member instead of fixing this one.

Valve cover off...

Unfortunately my intake side is FEAP

FE3N on exhaust side

New gasket, unfortunately this would later leak again. Stick to OEM as much as possible for this

Fitted while my other cover gets sandblasted and powder coated. Will have to do for now

on my fe3n i am using the old tank which was meant for a carb, the pump i had fitted used to make a hell of a noise, had the tank drilled and a bigger pipe fitted to the side, the pump is now much quieter, and that helped with the problem i had the car would run out of power at around 5000rpm, the pump was not sucking enough fuel, but with the bigger pipe is does now, also fitted bigger fuel lines, the mountings i got is a 3 peice sourced direct from agent and set me back about a R950.00.
dont know how to put pics on here to show wat it looks like.

Well if you can hook me up with that front bracket - I'd appreciate. As for pump noise - pressure can definitely do that.

Okay tried a new management system out. Was running Gotech (local brand). Switched to Dictator (also local brand)

First impressions:

1.) Dicktator unit is mounted in a nice safe cool hidden location that is easily accessible if you know where it is for tuning. Runs cooler than V5 Gotech MFI

2.) Much of the original wiring was retained, the two systems use the same sort of wiring configuration.

3.) Dyno graph shows some issues, wondering if VICS is indeed wired up correctly.

4.) Cold start is easier to live with than the old unit I had in the vehicle. Cranks on first start but what I noticed right off the bad is there was no more hunting for target rpm - a problem I couldn't resolve with the older unit.

5.) Pulls cleanly until limit which is set at 7000rpm

Hey dude
I am glad that you are happy with your car .....you see a dyno sheet and the HP that that it shows are not always how it feels on the road
It could be that it shows 200HP on the dyno graph but when you drive it it feels like it is making 100HP

hey IJIN, if i can ask, why you want the FE5A cams, would it not be cheaper to modify your existing cams, and power output should be more, i got a quote frm an enginering place that charged about R700 per cam to have it modified, and those 2 front seats, how much you paid for them ?

Can't reprofile the FEAP cam, only a bit on the FE3N and a lot more on the FE5A. So FE5A is the most versatile, whether reprofiling for high comp NA or turbo.

Those 2 front seats, how much you paid for them?

Can't really remember  Undecided

The regrinds, what did you have them in? The 2.0 or 2.2 stroker? Solid or Hydro?

HI
I had the cams in the stroker .....so they were cut for solid lifters BUT if you want the guy can cut them for hydraulic lifters but then the only problem is that they wont make much difference in the motor or in performance
