My crossmember looks identical to the 1 in the pic, so i am thinking seeing as my car was originaly a 2.0 8v auto, maybe when they changed the gb they replaced it with the 2.0 16v box.

older models had 2 holes ....newer models had 4 holes

and the guys that had 2.0 16valves came out with the 4 hole ones even if it was older models

Right, we've hit a small snag on the front gearbox mounting, Gert is on his way to the scrap yards around the area looking for what we need. Hold thumbs, we have to get this part or the Mazda sits for a long time Sad

this is what it looked like when i bought it

and this is what it looks like now

I got some wicked cleaner today for all those hard to clean parts

THE GAME you sure are correct in saying that the casings looks the same but it is not the same .....found that out the hard way  Tongue
I was so pissed off today ...the guy at the place where i bought  the box did put some gearbox oil in the thing ,and i didn't see it so when i picked it up to fit it in the car ....guess what happend?
All the oil came out and ran all over my clothes  Angry Angry
so now i am in k@k with the vrou

OK enough for now will post some more when things are almost done

i just remembered how to check if its the 16v box, my sump once cracked, and to take it off to fix there is 1 bolt you cant realy see, its hidden by the gb, the 16v box has a hole so you can remove that bolt, the 8v sump is diferent, so to take off my sump a hole had to be drilled into my bellhousing to get to that bolt, the 16v gb already has the spacing there so you can remove that bolt.

Do u think the 16v Flywheel & Clutch & pressure plate will work
with a 1.6 box. i doubt it.

Sean mayb your whole setup was a 1.6 instead of 2.0 16v. So you replacing
flywheel & clutch...

My gearbox that i have in my car didnt have those holes and still its a 16valve box
the import boxes sometimes didnt have the holes

hey buddy
i ran into some trouble today .....i took your car for a drive to make sure everything is ok on your car
and i found something wrong

the sideshaft for the left hand side (short shaft ) is to long for the car since the motor is on the right angle so if i turn left the noise goes away and in a straight line the C.V is making a funny noise
so this meens i have to change the shaft

I had a sneaky feeling this would happen. With the motor mounted like it was, the left side would have been pretty long.

Let's look at it Saturday
