Hi guys funny enough after getting my car back today, I park it in front of her garage and decide I want to open the bonnet.... I pull the release lever and after releasing my racing bonnet clips and nothing happens the bonnet stays closed. So I decide to investigate and low and behold the cable for the release is fine and down there but it's somehow managed to pull itself clean out of the release lever and as we all know pulling a cable with your fingers will not open the bonnet. Does anybody know what I could perhaps do to open my bonnet on my RX7 without damaging the cable or anything else thanks awaiting bright spark ideas on this one as the last time I had any problem like this was on my Golf GTi mk1 and that was corrected with a pliers and a screwdriver. I need info on this pretty urgently as my second police clearance is this week so help will be appreciated.

Hi Rob, Series 6 can't be opened easily, and this a common problem. Your two options are:

... but both require jacking up the vehicle.

1.) drop the undercover, then swaybar, then radiator items in the way, and pull the latch from underneath the vehicle.

or

2.) remove front right wheel, remove right front fender lining / cover, feel around there for the cable if it's not snapped (if snapped - option 1 is your only option.)

Keep us posted.

The cable seems to still be in the cabin amazingly it's just not attached to the release lever and must've come loose from it somehow, is there a way to pull on the lever inside the car without damaging it that'll open the bonnet. Any ideas? I'm seriously trying to avoid the long way to opening the bonnet.

Reason I've asked about how to do it without damaging the cable is due to the fact that I opened my girls polo bonnet by pulling on the cable with a pliers and due to my super duper strength I opened the bonnet but snapped the cable which was a real pain in the behind

Mmm it's tough to understand WHERE in the system things have gone wrong. Are you available later this week? Tuesday? Let me know - alternatively, post up some pictures so we understand where things are going wrong.

okay all went well, lets just say it's the bonnet latch plastic that came loose at the back of the lever, which thus released my bonnet release cable which almost pulled all the way through to the front but the ball piece of the cable hooked on the carpet somehow which saved me trouble, I reverted to using my trusty pliers and super strength to pull the cable back through managed to use leverage and the cable to open the bonnet. So the fix needed now it to get the cable back onto the release so pliers are no longer needed. Another trick I picked up is if you have removed your ac you can sometimes just see the cable through the gap in your bumper at the nose of the car depending on how much length your cable has and try pull it open from there. Thanks monkey for the tips you gave too. I'm sure this could be a helpful thread.

Okay so you didn't actually break that catch / latch? Good. Thanks for sharing your tips too, glad you're coming right.
