Quick question i want to build a "box" to enclose my intake what material would be best to block the heat from the engine bay?

Anything that is able to desapate heat quickly or insulate heat to one side. I know you're not looking to build a space ship but read here on space ship thermal protection systems, most of which can be adapted (material wise) into something useful for you.

Another tactic would be to come from a different angle, don't try and block hot air from the intake, try and make the hot air itself cooler.

Your exhaust is a huge factor here, either purchase heat wrap from businesses like myself or try out Maztech's offering here: http://www.importknights.co.za/maztech-development-43/exhaust-wrap/msg8280/#new

hmmm id say the best would be to use both approaches, but arent there reliability concerns when one heat wraps the standard exhaust manifold or an aftermarket one?

No, on an aftermarket exhaust if you use a good aluminium heat wrap with proper ties to hold them together it will work well. I haven't checked our OEM exhausts closely for heat wrap compatibility (if you can actually wind up far enough to make a difference).

I have my doubts about thermal wrapping the exhaust, I was also looking into this and from alot of reading most people are complaining that the manifold itself starts to deform because the heat inside the exhaust are very intense. your manifold might not last very long. the manifold as well also needs some form of cooling which is outside atmosphere. I might be wrong with this though...

That could well be possible on a stainless steel setup, mild steel where you hide the 'ugliness' with wrap doesn't deform - and if it does it's so unnoticeable! I had wrap on the FE DOHC's header for almost 2 years, still looks fine.

Only difference is that header is mild steel - not stainless :-) I am sure a softer metal will deform a bit  under emmense heat.

I guess my point was wrap - in itself, if done correctly, doesn't harm the reliability of the vehicle in any way. (With ref to what Wayne was worried about)

yeah many people have done it successfully, don't always believe what you read. Also we dont always know if it was good wrap they used, how much moisture is there in the area, how often these guys wash their bays, and do alot of racing, etc. etc.

Proof is in the pudding so slap it on already wayne lol. One thing is for sure it will bring down engine bay temps.

Dude, that sounds like you're burning coolant (if it's indeed greyish to white) - any hard pushing of the car lately? Overheating? Who serviced her last? If its more grey to black, then don't stress too much yet, it may just be fuel related. Remember that O2 sensor we spoke about ;-)

Give us more info so we can help out. Also include a video if you can.

As a guideline, grey / black == fuel, blue tinge == oil, white == coolant. Remember if your O2 sensor has indeed gone, fueling is out and you'll have some fuel related issues.

So let us know the colour, if you're looking for a replacement O2 sensor, I have one second hand in a box. You and I can agree on a price.

Alternatively, I can help you out during the week running a quick test or two. Just let me know via PM for availability.

alright heres the skinny....
i put in that "Waynes" cleaner a tank ago,and when i topped up last week i had put in a pint of oil again, now yesterday and today ive seen that shes sending out grey smoke, which i thought might have been condesation except it at 12h00... there is a small fuel smell might me the O2 as we said will vid it tomorrow if its light enough. No over heating and no real hard driving as yet.. serviced as Honda about 5k+/- miles ago. hmmmm maybe we must discuss the O2 sensor..

The Wynns stuff, yes - thankfully if you followed direction it wouldn't have done any harm, I've used that plenty of times in the fueling system, as long as the ratios are correct, you'll be fine, not harming anything.

If the smoke is grey don't panic yet - it could be excess fuel, you should be able to smell it. If its whiter, you should be able to smell a sweeter hue in the air (for me atleast) - with oil however you don't need to guess, it will be dark smoke and stink.

Let's rule out the basics, the smoke is gone while driving meaning that your idle afr's are most likely completely out. Lets set up that meeting and do some tests. Pm'ing you now.
