So, time to start my own thread, after some procrastination and finally having a weekend wothout work and studying, my car got some well deserved TLC . . . Cheesy

So, I got it in March 2007 from a lady in PE, it was not in the condition any normal petrol head would accept, and my love for this model is so overwhelming, I could not resist taking it off her hands, especially me being carless . . . Grin

SO, first day I got her at the car wash . . .

Next day I had sent the car in to Powerflow in PE, took the CAT off and 63mm system was installed . . . Cool

I had come home around 2 weeks later . . . The drive from PE was such a memorable one . . . Me and my new lady, getting to know each other . . . Embarrassed

Trip from PE is roughly 1100kms and I was back in Durbz in 9 hours flat . . . Cheesy

So got back, met a excellent mechanic and tuner(Autotrix motorsport), had a major service done, all belts and everything else checked up . . . Smiley

Few months down the line I met Sean on HRC and well, I been bothering him ever since . . . Cheesy

I took a set of these from TRS . . . Oom D was also with TRS at the time . . . Grin

Toward the end of 2009, I had a LuK clutch installed, bites nicely and is comfortable for a daily drive . . . Smiley

After that started saving and looking at a sweet CAI . . . I am not for the Autostyle stuffs . . .

I had the pleasure of Seans service and advice again on this mod and this is what I got . . . roughly 6 momths ago.

The engine bay is not the tidiest at the moment, especially with the stock manifold cover on . . . But here  it is . . . Grin

My fuel consumption dropped quite significantly after installing, and the car sounds, feels and goes so nicely . . .

This morning I sprayed the bezels . . .

Popped in some new cluster bulbs, the old ones looked quite dusty and black . . .

And the end product . . .

I also did a rim polish a while back, I used Meguirs with some serious reservations (there was nothing else in the store and I was not in a mood to go driving around), I had thought their product was not with that much of moola but . . . they really do work and make things all sparkly and shiny . . .

I bought a buffing pad thingy that fits onto a drill chuck and modified it to my application . . . Cheesy
Basically cut that 150mm rubber thingy to a smaller diameter and made a buffing pad from a towel to tie onto it . . . My mum was not impressed, I had to place the towel . . . But it was worth it . . .  Cheesy

The wheels did come out so tops, I think I need to get some of that gold class polish Meguirs carries . . . Grin

In a nutshell, the only thing holding me back is moola . . . Else I'd go ape on mods for this car . . . Cheesy

Plans for the future . . . Sort the little bits and bobs out, few more exterior things, the previous owner was in a fender bender, the rear end needs some attention.

Modding, I have given it some thought, when the finances are there, either boost or nice strong NA, sleeved and maybe 150 shot of gas . . . I dont know yet . . . But it needs to kick some serious German/French/American and all the rest . . . ASS . . . Cheesy

Whenever I work on the car, I learn new stuffs, and what I can do on my own and when I need a more experienced dude helping me out . . .

The next thing to do on the list is try and clean/service the intake manifold . . . Yes I will use Sean's thread as my dummies' guide . . . Cheesy

Aavi my man, great post and update! Only a pleasure helping where I can. Please take caution when cleaning the intake, no need to remove the screws on the plates like we did :-)

Good read and keep up the good work.

Ah nice!! good work there!

Dont worry too much about mods right now but for now focus on a drop, header and lekka exhaust system. I promise you'll like it.

Thanks guys . . . Grin

Yeah, I was thinking about the number plate thing, and this forum is sort of members only, plus I was just lazy . . . Tongue

Next time for sure . . . Cheesy

A drop would be so tops!

A whole new suspension setup is on the cards, sometime next year; shocks, springs, check steering column and control arms, ball joints . . . So that sorts that out, than the header, well, hoping I get that this year . . . Cheesy

So, update . . . Grin

I want to service in the next two weeks, its just the slightest bit overdue.

But, what do you guys make of those over the counter engine flush products . . . ?
Are they any good, I've heard just pop in the motor and drive for +- 50 kms and drain . . .

Also I want to drop the sump and clean it, when changing oil this time . . . Any rocket science involved there . . . Except for a new sump gasket . . . Tongue

Hey Aavi!

I wouldn't use any of the local flushes - injector cleaners are still passable - but most definitely not full flushes on these H22A motors.

If you suspect you've got issues with carbon deposits etc. look into a product called Sea Foam. As misleading and strange as the name is - it's one of the very best if used correctly. If you need some help getting some - hit me up with a PM and I'll sort it out for you.

On the sump gasket side of things, drop the sump, pay careful attention to torque order when you put it back (and specs) - if you need help with that I'm sure I posted a manual link around here somewhere, check the resources thread under the General section of the forum if you don't come right (if I ever posted it Tongue)

You'll need a new gasket as well as some gasket sealer for the ridge areas - don't use too much or you'll be in for bigger problems.

Cheers!

Ok sweet Smiley

Just the motor is doing 210100 or so kms and naturally it would be tired, just want sort of mini spring clean it, even though it wouldn't make that big of a difference and there is no small fix for a tired motor . . . Cheesy but just a couple thousand more kms till a full overhaul or next big plan . . . Sad

I will check around for Sea foam, it does sound SUPER misleading and will hunt for that link for the sump .
Plus I will do this with the mechanic's supervision, with me going to be unemployed in the next few weeks . . . Grin

Thanks Ijin Smiley

Hey Aavi,

Don't flush the engine, if you did regular oil changes with a new filter you shouldn't have any problems. Stick to synthetic oil and you can use the AP1 S2000 oil filter (direct fit on prelude).

The sump has no gasket to replace except for a little rubber seal on the flywheel side. Go to the nearest honda dealership and get that seal before you remove the sump, it will save you heaps of trouble. Also get manifold gaskets as you'll also need to remove the exhaust manifold(collector).

Hope it helps.

Not a fan of engine flush products myself either. Expensive way I do it is flush the motor with normal oil. I drop new oil & filter then drive for a day or two then drop in another filter & fresh oil. I only do this every 4th-6th service or something tho

Thanks D and Hiro . . .

I have got service parts and for some reason they do not believe the S2000 oil filter works on the 5th gen lude, I do remember somewhere else you mentioning they fit . . . Undecided

The salesman so could not get a part number for the sump gasket . . . Huh So thats on ice for this service, but I had done a flush when I drove the car home from PE, I had dropped in new oil and filter and then once I was home (+-1200kms later) I put in new bits . . .

Sadly though last night the car was broken into again and the alarm went off only to send the F$*K@N culprit running over the boundary wall fence . . . He took nothing but left the same window shattered . . . Cry

So Honda has sourced one from Italy for me and will be arriving around the 12th November (maybe earlier), for fitment and them I am driving to the nearest Glasfit for some anti smash and grab . . . Lips sealed

Like I said, AP1 s2000 filter does fit and have done it for the past 2 services. Ijin as well have fitted a s2000 filter on his last service. The s2000 filter is bigger and better. Do not believe everything you here from a Honda dealership. Here's the link:

Sorry for the loss mate  Sad

Sorry to hear you've had trouble again, same damn window too! Trust D and myself, the AP1 S2000 oil filter fits ;-)

I'll be replacing it with the same next service.
