Don't forget in Initial D the engine eventually popped and was replaced with a Silvertop 20V RSi engine with TODA stuff in it that made it a 11000 rpm monster he he he, because I researched the engine on the one site and they basically said it was the upgraded 20V 4age version with TODA mods like the touring cars had.

Hey guys have you seen this:
http://www.topspeed.com/cars/toyota/2012-toyota-ft-86-ar102866.html

Not the greatest site, but i saw this car the JHB motor show and was lucky enough to meet a guy from Toyota involved in the Import/Registation of this Car, This is a tribute to the Trueno, it is Toyota's attempt at creating a car that will put them back in the Tuner map, this comes from the design team at toyota, the car will be well priced, (estimated sub R400K) and will be very tuner friendly, Cant wait to see! if it turns out true, then this baby is a must buy! Some images i snapped:

Hell yeah FT-86 is tribute, won't ever have the same following (then again who knows) but I reckon the looks are aggressive enough out of the box to turn a few heads. Styling options will be difficult to get right however, considering the vehicle is so well rounded already.

In terms of performance - also heard of the multitude of parts planned for this beaut - hopefully we can capture some of the Supra hey days once again going into the future but under another model.

Thanks for the posting!

AE86 forever, the FT86 is like when Mazda tried making people want the RX8 instead of the RX7. When you have a great product why change it..... They should tribute it by making a like 50 more off the production line purely for enthusiasts to buy but with some one off performance upgrades that the original never came with

I tend to agree with you Rob, a 50 odd collection of AE86's as a final good bye would be incredible. Albeit costly to change production stream on it.

The FT86 is going to be different though. The chief engineer went out to say that the vehicle is a technical drive - without the usual computer interference - allowing the driver to do what he / she does best.

Drive. Let's see though.
